CIRM - Bacteria of food interest

The CIRM-BIA is one of the five Biological Resource Centres of the International Microbial Resource Centre, whose mission is to enrich, preserve and develop INRAE's collections of microorganisms (bacteria, filamentous fungi and yeasts) in compliance with the regulations and legislation in force within an ISO 9001 certified environment.

Our objectives

Specifically dedicated to bacteria of food interest, the objective of the CIRM-BIA is to reflect the diversity of bacteria associated with fermented and biopreserved foods. It contains more than 4,000 strains and is regularly enriched by targeted collections in various biotopes. The strains are selected in such a way as to offer the greatest possible diversity from a taxonomic and functional point of view. The research activity supports innovation in the field of fermentation and biopreservation.
