Legumes from the Mediterranean area
STLO at the Salon de l'Agriculture

STLO takes part in the Paris International Agricultural Show

STLO will be present on the INRAE stand at Salon International de l'Agriculture, in Paris, dedicated to field research for life-size solutions. From February 26 to 28, scientists from the unit will be presenting new food products based on nuts and legumes grown in the Mediterranean area. These innovative products, rich in plant proteins, were developed as part of the LOCALNUTLEG project. This will be an opportunity for scientists to get consumer feedback on these products.

The European LOCALNUTLEG project aims to promote nuts and legumes from the Mediterranean area that benefit from a legal trademark: Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) or an indigenous identity, through the development of innovative food products. The aim is to identify local varieties of nuts and legumes capable of supplying proteins, as well as maximum quantities of nutrients and bioactive compounds.  They will then be exploited in the context of Mediterranean diets. Various products are being developed, similar to fermented dairy products, such as pasta, traditional ready-to-eat dishes and spreads. Qualitative and quantitative studies are being carried out in participating EU countries (Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany and France) and non-EU countries (Israel, Turkey and Morocco) to determine consumer acceptance of the products developed.
