BIFORES: half-yearly meeting at the SECALIM unit

BIFORES: half-yearly meeting at the SECALIM unit

It has been 18 months since the BIFORES project began! On Monday 29 July, the consortium met at the SECALIM facility (Nantes) for its half-yearly meeting, providing an opportunity to take an initial stock of the new infant formula production processes combining fermentation with less denaturing methods, on a semi-industrial scale.

The project is continuing with an assessment of the health effects of these new infant formulas, an evaluation of the associated microbiological risks, and an assessment of the environmental impact of these revised production processes. This meeting also provided an opportunity to hold a workshop to discuss the multi-criteria assessment of the ‘performance’ of these infant formulas, in light of the health, food safety and sustainability challenges associated with these products. The meeting, which featured a wealth of discussion, concluded with a tour of the SECALIM facility.
