BIFORES blows out its first candle!

Second project follow-up meeting

The BIFORES  project is celebrating its first anniversary! Launched in January 2025, this project aims to rethink infant formula production processes by combining fermentation and minimal processing in order to simultaneously address the challenges of health, safety, and sustainability for these products.

On Tuesday, January 13, 2026, the second project follow-up meeting was held, bringing together more than 40 members from various academic partners ((NUMECAN, MEDIS, SECALIM, , STLO) and industrial partners (Bba Milk Valley). The day provided an opportunity for fruitful exchanges between the partners, particularly during two workshops:

·         a first workshop on eco-design focusing on PPN production routes,

·         a workshop on the in vitro models that will be implemented in the project.

This meeting also provided an opportunity to welcome three new members to the project:

Ingrid Couturier, who is joining the MEDIS unit as a Research Engineer to evaluate the effect of new PPNs on the intestinal microbiota using an in vitro model of colonic fermentation.

Sarah Dupont et Kousseila Tigrine.jpg

Kousseila Tigrine who is starting her thesis in the SECALIM unit on the multi-criteria evaluation of the performance of these new infant formulae. Kousseila will incorporate the health effects that will be evaluated by Sarah and Ingrid, the microbiological risks associated with the new PPN production routes, and their environmental cost (via life cycle analyses) et Sarah Dupont who is starting her thesis in the NUMECAN and STLO units on assessing the nutritional and health impact of new PPNs by combining in vitro and in vivo approaches.

They join Adèle Miteul, a postdoctoral fellow recruited on the project for 1 year to develop the new production routes of the PPN.

Welcome aboard!
